Stairs of Wisdom
June 2024

In "Stairs of Wisdom", layered rectangular forms—evocative of stacked books, ancient bricks, or archived memories—symbolize the slow, uneven accumulation of wisdom over time. It resists the modern cultural worship of pristine surfaces and linear progress, instead suggesting that wisdom is nonlinear, textured, and accumulated through time and wear.
The dominant hues—deep cobalts, worn purples, and verdigris greens—are reminiscent of corroded metals, aged paper, and fading inks. These tones carry a sense of melancholy, reverence, and the passage of time. They are not loud; they whisper, like the voice of an old book opened in silence. The use of cool colors grounds the painting in introspection, while the occasional intrusion of warm rusts, ochres, and golds punctuates the composition with a sense of illumination—moments of insight or revelation.
Some knowledge fades, some is lost, yet even forgotten ideas leave imprints. Like old books with missing pages, their lingering presence becomes part of the invisible architecture we build upon. These forgotten layers, much like eroded foundations beneath cities, form the very base of our shared human story.
