Substructure

This work explores the visual and physical tension between the organic realm and human-made structures. The geometric grid enveloping the painting’s surface functions as an architectural facade. Its materiality and urban coldness are accentuated by the integration of microcement. Through deliberately exposed fragments, the underlying layer of the painting breaches the surface—a previously rendered, organic landscape that serves as the foundation for the new composition. The tactile, coarse facades and the wedged organic elements provoke an open-ended question regarding the stratification of matter, the passage of time, and the boundaries of control.
